Transfer Your Energy With Music

Have you ever wanted to write a song to record in a recording studio? If so, then you are in the right place at the right time, because you are about to discover the secrets of writing music in less than two hours!

The good news is that these secrets work even if you have never recorded a song in a professional studio before.

Read on…

Step 1: Find a beat that matches your energy

Many people who are new to songwriting don’t even realize that they need to do this step before they can start writing a song. And that’s why a lot of people who try to record a song end up failing — they are simply missing this crucial step in the writing process.

So, the first thing you need to do is to choose a beat that reflects the energy that you want your audience to receive. Even if you do not end up recording to that specific beat, it is important that you find the right energy to write to before you start the recording process.

You’ll find that this part of the process goes much smoothly if you apply these tips and tricks:

  • The personal parts of the entire song producing process begins with the writing process. Without the right energy prior to going into the studio, you will waste time by not being prepared.
  • Have your beat options ready and come with your song already written unless you plan on free styling or you can write a song in less then 15 minutes, depending on your preference.
  • Practice and rehearse your song many times before recording to prevent getting stuck on your lines and having to re-record your lines many times.

Once you’ve found a beat that matches the energy that you want to transfer to your audience, then you can move on to the next step…

Step 2: Write your song at home or freestyle in the studio

The next thing you need to do is start writing your song to the beat that you intend on recording to.

When I first started writing music in a studio, I made a lot of mistakes and wasted a lot of money on studio time. And now that I’ve helped others do it, I see a lot of people have a tendency to make the same mistakes. So let me share with you the top 4 mistakes and how to avoid them:

  • Do not try to write your entire song in the studio, because this is time that you can spend on laying your verses, adding ad-libs, mixing your music and practicing your final version.
  • Do not try to sound like other artists! It’s important to find your own unique song and be personal and vulnerable with your fans.
  • Try not to hold back any emotions you have when you are writing your music, this is where you want to get as personal as possible as an artist! Remember your energy in the writing process is where the magic is made!
  • Have multiple beats as options to record to and be open to the engineer making adjustments to match your words and message.

Step 3: Schedule a minimum of 2 hours to record your song in the studio

At this step you’re likely to notice that you may get frustrated finding the right words you want to use to match your beat. So, what you need to do is work with your engineer to choose words that make sense, have the right tone, and flow with the sounds correctly.

I still remember the first time I was scheduling studio time and trying to figure out how much time it would take to finish one song. I was scheduling studio time just to write music and wasn’t leaving any time to record or mix my music during one session. I would come to the studio with no music written, spend hours listening to different beats, finally get around to writing, and by the time my 2 hour session was finished, I hadn’t finished one song.

Now I know to come prepared with my music already written, practiced and memorized prior to scheduling my recording session. That way if I do need some time to create with the engineer I have more time to let our creative juices flow and save time to mix the song after recording.

And there you have it — a simple 3-step method for writing a song ready for recording. Now that you know the secrets to writing music thats ready for recording, there’s just one thing left to do: start writing!

So get right to it, and soon you too will be recording songs in less than 2 hours too!
